Judges select winners, write text

The final day of the World's Best-Designed@ Newspapers judging will be spent selecting page examples from each of the winning newspapers. The four judges will also write text explaining why the papers were selected.

This is done behind closed doors with no streaming video but we'll continue to report the day's happenings and provide pictures similar to the slide show below that shows judges over three long days of studying the entries to come up with the winners.

You'll need the Adobe Flash Player to watch the show. If you don't have it yet, and most people do, you can download it free by searching the Internet for "Flash Player."

It took judges more than 12 hours to write and edit the text that will appear in the annual winner's book titled The Best of Newspaper Design™. The 28th Edition full-color book will be available from SND in October. One judge was overheard saying, "This is much harder than I thought it would be!"

WORLD’S BEST Judge PAAL BERG (left) lifts a mallet towards Judge Ally Palmer as Audit Director Shamus Walker offers use of a real hammer. Judge Bonnie Jo Mount (right) wonders how this action will help get the creative juices flowing so judges can finish writing justifications for the winners.
